What the care portal does is provide an electronic means for caseworkers to communicate on just one webpage. The needs of their case are shared, taking confidentiality into careful consideration. Members of the church receive an email notifying them of the need for help. The point person for the church can then determine if their church has the resources to meet that need. They connect with the caseworker, usually through phone, text, or email, to communicate their ability to help. Over the past year, we have been collaborating with Dr. Deb and others within DHS who have heard about the care portal system. It is a platform that connects local churches to the needs of child welfare through an email system. However, they needed assistance in persuading churches to get involved. We contacted the care portal team in Kansas City, who had recently completed their rollout in several states, including Texas and Missouri. We expressed our desire to bring care portal to Oklahoma through the One Loan Project. Although the organization wasn't prepared to roll it out officially, they agreed to partner with the Lenora Project to bring the tool and ministry to the state. We launched the care portal in Stevens County in September 2015. We observed significant growth in the number of churches actively involved in meeting the needs of cases. We also received positive feedback from child welfare workers and supervisors, who acknowledged the impact the care portal had on families and cases.
